Dynamic Dysmorphia
S/S 25 Couture Collection
Dynamic Dysmorphia is a couture collection inspired by the mental illness, body dysmorphic disorder. A person experiencing this may hyper fixate on perceived flaws which can cause significant distress impacting their ability to function in daily life. So, to help people cope with this disorder, I wanted to translate insecurities into fashionable clothing. This may help the wearer accept themselves instead of trying to continuously “fix” their flaws.
The insecurities I chose to represent are acne, body hair, stomach size, and arm size while the last look represents the disorder overall. The garments are made from various textured fabrics while crystals are incorporated to portray self-acceptance. My collection aims to enhance awareness of body dysmorphic disorder and represent different “flaws” in a positive light.
